DALLAS, Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) raised more than $600,000 for the Ronald McDonald Charities at the 27th annual LUV Classic charity golf tournament held on Oct. 5, where Employees and sponsors teed up for the cause. This year's contributions will be distributed between Ronald McDonald Houses in Dallas, New York, Fort Lauderdale, Washington D.C., Spokane, Buffalo, and Reno. In 1985, the airline that LUV built adopted the house that Love built, and Southwest has raised more than $13 million benefitting Ronald McDonald Charities over the last three decades.

The annual Dallas LUV Classic golf tournament originated as a fund-raiser for a popular Dallas club owner, Joe Miller, who was battling cancer. When Miller donated excess funds to the Dallas Ronald McDonald House, Southwest followed his lead. Proceeds from the tournament now are donated to select Ronald McDonald Houses across Southwest's system. The Southwest Airlines LUV Classic is the second largest charity golf tournament in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.
